SENI BUDAYA

GAMELAN FUSION

Gamelan is the music instrument that was originated from Indonesia. We have designed a special programme to maximise the student’s engagement in this programme by playing the gamelan, kompang and angklung as one unit.

 

OBJECTIVE

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to play Gamelan, Kompang and Angklung as a group that will promote teamwork and synchronization skills.

 

Activites includes:

  • Introduction to Gamelan Fusion – Gamelan, Angklung, Kompang

  • History of Gamelan

  • Hands-on activity with these three instrument

  • Performance by students

  • Notes will be given

 

Duration: 2 - 3 hours

Venue: AVA/Music/Classroom

ANGKLUNG

Angklung is a traditional musical instrument from Indonesia. Angklung is indeed an easy instrument to play as it can also be enjoyed by those who have zero background of music.

 

OBJECTIVE

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to Angklung as a group that will promote teamwork and synchronization skills.

  • Introduction and history of Angklung (origin)

  • Know the various parts of Angklung

  • Know the various key notes of Angklung

  • Practice of a few simple Malay songs

  • Notes will be given

 

Duration: 1.5 hours

Venue: Classroom/Music/AVA Room/Hall

KOMPANG

The kompang is the most popular Malay traditional music instrument. It is widely used for all sorts of social occasions, from wedding ceremonies and official functions.

 

OBJECTIVE

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to play kompang as a group that will promote teamwork and synchronization skills.

 

Activites includes:

  • History of kompang, proper way and technique of playing kompang

  • Understanding the importance of teamwork and synchronization while playing kompang

  • Performance by students

  • Notes will be given

 

Duration: 1.5 hours

DIKIR BARAT

Dikir barat is typically performed by groups of members(10 to 15, could be more) even in competitive environments. A group usually sits cross-legged on a platform, sometimes surrounded by the audience.

 

OBJECTIVE

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to perform Dikir Barat as a group that will promote teamwork and synchronization skills.

 

Activites includes:

  • Introduction and explanation of Dikir Barat & Lagu Juara

  • Learning the song and steps

  • Performance by students

  • Notes will be given

 

Duration: 1.5 hours         

Venue: Classroom/Music/AVA Room/Hall

 
SILAT

Silat is the martial art for the Malays that has been practiced since the past century.

 

OBJECTIVE

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to learn various aspects of Silat and the movements.

 

Activites includes:

  • Introduction to Silat

  • Learning various aspects of Silat

  • Hands-on to Silat movements

  • Notes will be given

 

Duration: 1.5 hours         

Venue: Classroom/Outdoor

 
TARIAN

Tarian is a popular cultural form in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. Each ethnic group has its own dance forms which characterizes its culture.

 

OBJECTIVE

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to perform at least simple basic steps of Malay Dance following the music tempo. At the same time, learning more about the various types of Malay Dance.

 

Activites includes:

  • Introduction of Malay Dance – several types of dance

  • Learning of simple dance step following music tempo

  • Performance by students

 

Duration: 1.5 hours         

Venue: Classroom/Music/AVA Room

 
WAYANG KULIT

Wayang kulit or shadow puppet theatre is a traditional art performance originated from Indonesia and Malay which is usually performed by one solo puppeteer.

 

OBJECTIVE

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to learn more about the history of Wayang Kulit and managed to understand the making or behind the scenes of performing Wayang Kulit.

 

Activites includes:

  • Introduction and explanation of Wayang Kulit

  • Wayang Kulit performance from trainer

  • Performance from volunteers (students)

  • Notes will be given

 

Duration: 1.5-2 hours         

Venue: Classroom/Music/AVA Room

 
TRADITIONAL GAMES

Traditional games consist of various games which were played during kampong days. 

 

OBJECTIVE

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to learn more about various Traditional Games and have hands-on activity. 

 

Activites includes:

  • Knowing various type of Malay Traditional Games

  • All games will be guided by our trainers

  • Each student will get a chance to play every game (if time permits)

  • Getting a good hands-on with Malay Traditional Games

 

Duration: 1.5-2 hours         

Venue: Hall/Outdoor/ISH
